From a young age, I’ve always been drawn to art and design. Some of my earliest and fondest memories are of doodling with my Dad, visiting art galleries, and working on creative projects together. This passion for creativity has grown over the years as I explored various crafts, including drawing, painting, sewing, and jewellery design. At school, I excelled academically, particularly in Art, Textiles, Photography, and Product Design during my GCSEs and A-Levels. This led me to further my education, earning an Art & Fashion Diploma and an Adobe Photo Suite Diploma at the London College of Fashion, followed by a Bachelor's Honours Degree in Fine Art at the University of Essex. My journey has been fascinating, and I continue to learn and evolve.
Digital art has always been a passion of mine, and I taught myself Photoshop before gaining my diploma at LCF, which led me to discover graphic design. After university, I spent 10 years working for Searle & Co Ltd, a prestigious jeweller in the heart of the City of London. The company was known for its high-end pieces, exceptional service, and bespoke jewellery and silverware. It was a privilege to work there until its unfortunate closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, marking the end of a 125-year-old institution.
During my time at Searle, I wore many hats, but my true forte was the creative side. I became their in-house designer, creating bespoke jewellery and silver pieces for our clients. From hand-drawing and water colouring jewellery designs to scale, to sourcing gemstones and diamonds, and liaising with workshops to bring these creations to life, it was an incredibly rewarding experience. I also managed their online presence, redesigned their website, handled marketing and advertising, and even photographed jewellery and silverware. Additionally, I earned a diploma in Gemmology from the Gemmological Association to better understand the business and enhance my skills.
After Searle closed, I realised the need to shift my focus beyond local jewellers. While I had worked for other jewellers, I often found that sales took precedence over my creative skills. This led me to make the significant decision to leave the jewellery industry and concentrate on growing my graphic design and art working skills.
I’m currently working as a graphic designer and marketer, my real strength lies in the creative side, particularly graphic design and artwork. My experience in the jewellery industry and beyond has given me a strong foundation in branding and visual storytelling, and I love crafting designs that resonate with audiences. I’m also passionate about photography and enjoy experimenting with design trends to keep my work innovative and fresh.
I find that my skills are best suited to the creative aspects of graphic design and artwork, rather than the analytical side. This is where I truly shine, bringing ideas to life through visuals and ensuring they connect with people. It’s where my passion lies, and it’s the direction I want my journey to continue.
